About Me

Hi, my name is Aditya Samitinjay. I'm 29, from Hyderabad, India. I'm a medical doctor with an M.D. in General Internal Medicine. I'm currently working as a Senior Resident, in Government General and Chest Hospital, Erragada, Hyderabad. I'm now working as an Assistant Professor in Department of General Medicine, SVS Medical College & Hospital, Mahabubnagar, Telangana.

I consider myself privileged and honored that 'medicine' picked me to provide evidence-based health care. I have a committed passion for teaching and the joy of seeing excitement and curiosity on the faces of young students is very gratifying. I'm also a strong proponent of patient education and I believe it is our duty to simplify and educate our patients on their health problems.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy writing up patient narratives and actively take part in online discussions on cases presented elsewhere. I enjoy reading medical literature on the web too. I'm also innovative and have developed quite inventive ways of detecting clinical findings and demonstrating clinical signs. You can find some of these in the 'Formal Evidence' page link at the top.

I have also had the privilege of being the chief editor of a pocket book titled - 'Handbook in Emergency Medicine by Dr. S.K. Biswas'. I was also given the opportunity to contribute (book chapter) to 'Humanities in Medical Education 2nd Edition by Tejinder Singh'. You can read my contributions here.

I have also been lucky enough to make a few publications during my residency and now. Please find the links to these below -

  1. Traumatic subdural haematoma: integrating case-based clinical judgement with guidelines (See Blogged Comment on our article here)
  2. Nontubercular mycobacterial cough
  3. Autoimmune haemolytic anaemia due to immunodeficiency
  4. Case Records in Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences: High-Altitude Breathlessness Refractory to Descent.
  5. Antler Sign Of Pulmonary Venous Hypertension
  6. Profile of Electrocardiographic Changes in Scorpion Envenomation
  7. Integrated case-based clinical approach in understanding pathways, complexities, pitfalls and challenges in neurodegenerative disorders

Outside of Medicine, I enjoy a good dose of solitude, long walks, meaningful and neck-deep conversations with friends and family. I also enjoy long drives and traveling. I have been lucky enough to tour 5 countries 8 countries (Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Iceland, Seychelles, UAE, Singapore & India extensively!). I have a good bunch of friends and I trust they will be my lifelong pals. I am a staunch atheist and an opponent of 'crony capitalism'.

Lastly, I'm a lifelong Liverpool Football Club fan. I'm quietly confident we can win the quadruple this season in Paris (we couldn't! but up the mighty reds anyway!) I'm also a novice guitar player and I make paltry attempts to play country and blues. It is my sincere dream to play 'Where the Streets Have No Name by U2' one day. Hopefully!

Evidence Documents for Higher Specialty Training Application

As part of my application to higher specialty training (HST) in the UK, I have decided to collect all evidence documents and publish them online. I already have them stored on my hard drive but I thought it would be helpful to others who are also interested in applying to HST at a later date. A link to the revised application scoring criteria , applicable from November 2022 for the 2023 academic recruitment (August 2023 to December 2023) is here Edited - 26 October 2023 Images from the application scoring criteria are shown below for easier understanding. Text highlighted in green applies to my application, highlighted in yellow/orange is what is possible before I submit my application (such as scoring a full 8/8 for MRCP UK; scoring 8/8 for a publication as first author). My scores in all areas of the application are highest, except in Additional achievements, for which I can only get 1 point and score for training in teaching is likely to be the same at 2 points. A Paradigm Shift - Reflections from Blinded Assessment of Online Learning Portfolios of MBBS Students

Another academic year has passed and a fresh batch of interns has arrived, and with each passing year, I feel 'academically older' and feel like I'm from the distant past. Inconspicuously, I have found myself wearning rose-tinted glasses on my hindisght and see my yesteryears as 'those glory days'. However, system 2 thinking takes over and I quickly realise that I was (and am) as the current crop of students are - incomplete, yearning to learn, with some sense of fear and insecurity as to what the future beholds. I was recently invited, along with my dear wife Dr. Madhavi Latha, to provide a blinded assessment of 32 students who just took their final MBBS exams, by assessing their long case, short case and seeing their performance recorded on video (only some students' videos were reviewed). The goal of this project is to compare their performance on their learning portfolios, to their university marks/assessment . The paradigm shift is in how we've moved fr
